Actually, I have ‘sweet teeth’. I understand the concept of ‘just don’t eat sweets’. What I need are tips to cure the desire to want to eat sweets! This usually happens to me after I’ve had my insulin.

The craving can be caused by carbohydrates in your meals. Especially faster acting carbs (pasta, potatoes, bread and desserts etc) because they send your body on a roller coaster ride – food, insulin, more food, more insulin….
If you have more balanced meals with less fast acting carb you should lose the cravings. Replace the starchy carbs with vegetables, replace bread with a few light crackers, get into more meat & vegetable meals and leave out the chips & other carb-heavy side dishes.
I know the heavy carb foods are normally people’s favourites, but this is a change worth making – your blood sugars will be more balanced, your cravings should disappear (so long as you don’t overdo the insulin and get low after eating!), and you’ll feel soooo much healthier!
Do you test your blood sugar when you’re craving? Both high and low blood sugars bring on food cravings for most people. If you test and find you’re high, ride it out – drink water or munch on a bit of a raw vegetable or something like that. Wait until the insulin has fully worked to bring your blood sugar down. [note: if you're having less carb in your meals you will get less BG spikes too, better for your chances of complications and better for your energy levels :) ]
If your blood sugar is low after eating then it could simply be that you’re having too much insulin. Have something to eat if you’re low, of course.
Are you in charge of your own insulin doses? If you’re on a set amount per meal, you’ll need to talk to your doctor / endo before making diet changes. Less carb means using less insulin – if you still use the same amount you’ll be low for sure. If you are carb counting or working out your own insulin doses, just go for it with caution. Any changes take a while to configure while you sort out how much you need.
    Good luck!
